~ER fiasco~

8/17/07--I was supposed to go see Hairspray for our "girls day out" and then spend the rest of the evening painting Jasmine's room. Jonas was going camping with the scouts. INSTEAD we spent the night here---the ER of Primary Children's Hospital. Oh but the story of how we got here is an interesting one.

1:30pm Shayden tripped in the living room that day saying goodbye to Jonas who came home for lunch. His mouth landed right on the tile that lines the window sil.

2:30pm After tears, much blood and havoc, he falls asleep.

3:30pm Jonas comes home and confirms that we need to take him in to the Dr.

4:15pm Having been told that it is the best, we head out on our way to Primary Children's Hospital, East of downtown.

4:30pm On the way I had the brilliant yet not so brilliant idea to call the InstaCare right by my house just to ask if they do stitches, maybe I can avoid the long drive both ways, I tell myself. They say they can and there is not a long wait right now. So I turn around and head back toward my house.

5:00pm It takes me 40 painstaking minutes to travel the approximate 10 miles back in rush hour traffic!!! Jonas meets us there.

5:30pm Heading back to Primary Childrens because the nurse at the InstaCare took one look at him and told us "sorry but we don't do stitches in the mouth here". AHHHHHH!!!

6pm Drop Jasmine off at the Co-Op babysitting group night so she doesn't have to deal with all this. Tell the scouts, sorry, trip is cancelled. :(

Arrive at Primary Children's ER--blown away at how kind they are there.

7pm Waiting in the waiting room.

8:30pm After 3 different opinions, we are told that although he did tear the frenulum (spelling?) which is the little piece of skin that connects the top of the gum to the lip, the mouth will heal on it's own and they rarely do stitches to fix it anyhow, in this case they didn't need to.

9:30pm Waiting for the perscription to the mouth rinse that is needed.

10:30 Late dinner and home at last!

Wow, that was not what we anticipated, but we were so glad that he was okay.
He was really a trooper, especially since he missed the camping trip too.
I know this is a long post but I do have to add one thing. One of the wonderful doctors made a comment that struck me. She was listening to Shay's heart and she said
"wow, it is so good to hear a healthy heart"
As I was leaving that hospital that night, I couldn't help but think about all of those poor families that spend night after night in the uncomfortable rooms of those hospitals. Sitting by their child's bed, wishing they could somehow switch places. I was really touched and felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude that my stay was brief and I had two beautiful, healthy children to care for. What a blessing every day is.

8/14/07 Some pictures of our day at Lagoon

Jonas went on the Screamer the horrible ride who made me throw up once, though it pains me to admit it.

It didn't even phase him.

But we entertained ourselves by taking pictures of the kids eyes...guess who?

I heart Central Park!

Just got back from a trip~
Sooooo much to catch up on!
I'll be back soon...

Saturday Fun

I have fond memories of waking up super early on the 4th of July to go see the hot air balloons take off in Provo when my brother and sister were going to BYU. So when I heard that they were going to have the first annual Balloon Festival here in Salt Lake, I decided that we had to go.
So after waking up at 6:30 in the morning to see the balloons, the kids enjoyed eating breakfast in the trunk of my parents car.

Then later we went to the Ultradent Safari Picnic at the Zoo, which was my mom's work party.

The kids had a blast doing a scavenger hunt, riding the train and seeing an awesome elephant show.

It was a good grandparent bonding day.

Date Night

We do a co-op babysitting exchange on Friday nights so that we can go out and have a date night once a week and the kids get to go play with their friends.
On Friday we went to Lagoon because it was my dad's work party and they didn't want to go. We got there 10 minutes before dinner ended so we literally ran all the way to the back of the park and made it just in time!
This is the only picture I have since it was just the two of us.
At first we thought that we were only going to get to ride one ride each but then we found out it was an all ride passport so we ran around like little children going from one line to the next. The main thing we wanted to do was ride Wicked, which is the new rollarcoaster and it was truly that! It was crazy! We had to wait in line for 1 hour but it was well worth it. We loved it!

I love spending time with my hubby, he makes me laugh and there is never a dull momment! It was nice to do something that required us to talk so much and catch up.
Tommorrow we are going again, except this time we will take the kids!

Went on a fun little outing to tour a candy factory this week!
Is that Jasmine posing? oh no
I spent $10 on candy and chocolate!
We saw pipes that were labeled "chocolate" too bad they weren't see through.

National Night Out Against Crime

Decided to go out and see what was brewin' at this event since I had heard about it several years but never been and it was very worthwhile.

We had fun eating free food,

listening to music,

face painting,

magic show,

AND

we even got to dunk Jonas in the dunking booth!
What could be better than that?

Well I think prize winning comes pretty close.

The two boys had a lucky night, Jonas won a helmet (for Jasmine) a t-shirt and movie passes,

and Shayden won an enormous sleeping bag.

It was almost bigger than him!

We learned about crime prevention, Shay got to get in a helicopter and we got to see the Mayor get dunked too!

Toadally FROGS!!!

I have been meaning to take the kids to this exhibit at the Utah Museum of Natural History, it was well worth our time, and the frogs were from the Audobon Aquarium in New Orleans, very cool.
When we got there we were pleasantly surprised that they were just starting a "Mad Science" presentation that was pretty facinating. And this guy was pretty interesting.

We learned all about Frogs and Toads and at the end of the day I felt it was a good mixture of education and fun.

Hairspray!

So my friend Jen said I had to go see Hairspray because she was obsessed with it and she was right, I had to. Not only because let's face it I like things are a kind of quirky, but because I am one of the few people who remember and actually was a fan of the 1988 version of this movie. So I had to see how this one compared! At first I was a bit skeptical, (especially about John Travolta playing a woman!) but he definately won me over and now I am hooked! I love the main character--Nikki Blonsky and with Michelle Phieffer you can't go wrong. Thank you Jen for letting me go see it with you and for the soundtrack the minute I got in the car to go! It's all I listen to now!

Leatherby's really deserves a post of it's own because of the special place that it holds in my heart, but I had to mention that we went to get icecream before the movie.

We didn't even have to look at the menu, Tracy's PB cup all the way baby! love it love it love it!
It was just nice to sit and talk especially since I don't get to see her very often. And getting a babysitter in the middle of the afternoon for no other reason but a grown up playdate? How unconventional! How risque! I love it!
Okay enough with the quirkyness but now that I am obsessed too, I've been thinking...what is better than seeing this movie with a good friend? Seeing it with a theatre full of girlfriends!!! So ladies, if you are interested in doing something a little out of the ordinary like getting a babysitter in the middle of the afternoon to go see a matinee, then stand by because the date and time will be coming soon!

Fishing and Friendship

Our last day together was Monday and Jonas took the boys fishing. They were so excited to go but a little disappointed that they didn't catch anything. Oh well. Leah and I stayed behind and chatted about everything, it was so good to be with her again.

Friendship is so important to me, I truly believe that our friends are our little angels that carry us through life. I am so happy that Shay and Kai can also be good friends. They have known each other since they were 2 and I love to see their friendship evolve.

It was sad to say goodbye but Leah will be coming to SLC to visit soon!

Oh Country Home

The next day was a relaxing one we went to church with our friends in the morning, then we relaxed at their home. They live in the cute little "cottage" really far out in the country. I wish I had taken a picture of it. They live on this huge piece of land that is owned by Josh's parents, for now. They have done so much work to their home since I was there last summer.

Behind their home there is this cute little steam and all the bushes, trees, bugs etc, that any boy could dream of. Let's just say Shayden was in heaven.
In the early evening we went to Rexburg and walked around the beautiful BYUI gardens.

And of course we took a look at the Rexburg Temple still being built and all the changes to our
beloved Ricks College where we met. Such a reminicant trip this was!

This is a picture of the house that I lived in as a new freshman in college! Remember how I tripped down those stairs the first day? hee hee, how embarrassing!

Yellowstone and West Yellowstone

Well we had a great weekend visit to Idaho to see our friends the Chase Family. We just think they are wonderful. So we headed out late Friday night and after a series of dramatic events, arrived at about 11pm. Went to bed and woke up in the morning and headed to Yellowstone National Park. It was beautiful as usual and the drive brought back so many memories for Jonas and I as we drove back and forth from Rexburg to West Yellowstone quite often during our "courtship". We had a great time reminicing, exploring around all the geysers and gases and wildlife. It was so relaxing to be out in the thick of nature again. Love that.

The boys even became Junior Rangers! They were so proud of themselves!

We didn't see any of these...

But we did see plenty of these, nice view huh?

more gas :)

Our night ended with a stroll around West Yellowstone which will always have a special place in my heart (sigh). Then we went to Playmill Theatre where Jonas was a big star back in the day and the new owner treated us all (all 8 of us!) to see the play that evening which was none other than...

See How They Run

which Jonas acted in 10 years ago this summer!!! (He was Clive). It was so great to watch again, the cast this year is amazing, get out to see them if you can it is such a fun atmosphere. I would have been thrilled had it been Big River because of course that is my favorite but nevertheless it was a priceless moment to relive those memories in a way. We took all 4 kids which was an adventure and we got home (to the Chases') way later than expected (midnight), but it was well worth it.

Messy Party!

Our friends the Kissi's hosted a "Messy Party" and it was all about the mess, let me tell ya! The kids had so much fun! There was a big pile of flour for them to roll around it as you can see, a bowl of jello, big bowl of spagetti (which made a disgusting combination to play in) edible playdough, sand, bubbles, the works. Then they hosed off in the backyard where there were several pools, sprinklers, etc.

Luckily for me, Jasmine was mostly interested in getting wet, not so messy, hee hee.
Shayden, on the other hand, had a pinata head when his hair mixed with water and flour.

And the picture of the day was most certainly this one of Jaya, who by far won the award for messiest of all!!! Wendy, are you still getting the "paper mache" out?
